3D-Modeling. / April 29, 2009 /

3D terrain modeling is one of the promising uses of remote sensing data. When engineering and large-scale construction, 2D maps might not meet the requirements of structural designers and builders. Satellite data-based 3D models demonstrate a region of construction. 3D models are rather useful in designing of communication infrastructure enabling visibility zone and coverage area to be tracked. Many consumers are taking an active interest in3D terrain models as a certain demonstration material because of their clearness.

3D modeling tasks are generally realized by use of remote sensing data of high and very high resolution (RESURS-DK1, IKONOS, Quick-Bird, ALOS etc).

Stages of DTM Generation and Its Visualization

1. Segment of topographic map of DTM generation area

2. Vector layer of topography linear elements (contour lines) obtained by topographic map, superimposition with the map fragment

3. 3D-Visualization of topography vector linear elements

4. 3D-Visualization of DTM based on topographic map

5. 3D-Visualization of satellite image based on DTM

6. 3D-Visualization of satellite image based on DTM superimposed with topography vector linear elements
