ELEKTRO Geostationary Hydrometeorological Spacecraft (future spacecraft). / November 18, 2008 /

Mission Objectives

ELEKTRO-L geostationary hydrometeorological spacecraft is designed for operational imaging of cloud cover and the Earth’s underlying surface, heliogeophysical measurements, hydrometeorological and housekeeping data collection and relaying.

  • Operational imagery (0.25-0.5-hour periodicity) of cloudiness and Earth’s underlying surface;
  • Operational acquisition of data on global atmospheric processes in near-equatorial zone that affect weather formation throughout the globe;
  • Heliogeophysical measurements;
  • Collection and relaying of weather and housekeeping data;

Tasks to be Fulfilled

  • to acquire on an operational basis images of cloudiness and the Earth’ underlying surface;
  • an operational 1-2 times in an hour obtaining of data on global atmospheric processes occurring in subequatorial region and governing weather formation throughout the globe;
  • heliogeophysical measurements;
  • hydrometeorological and housekeeping data collection and transmission.
