KANOPUS-V1 Can Observe in the Nighttime. / February 15, 2013 /

Extended Capabilities of the KANOPUS-V1 Imaging Equipment.
The NTs OMZ as a Remote Sensing Space Systems’ Operator continues its efforts in increasing the Russian Orbital Constellation efficiency and searching radically new solutions for using space imagery data to the benefit of socio-economic and scientific problems.
Thus, in January 2013, an experimental imaging of Moscow was performed in the nighttime (01:00 Moscow Time) by means of the KANOPUS-V1 equipment. The results obtained enable the objects, structures, and regions of intensive nighttime activity to be detected exactly. Using space imagery data, the mosaics (joining of several adjacent paths to obtain an image that covers a region of interest exceeding the spacecraft swath width) of a region required may be generated for detecting settlements, cities, and regions of intensive nighttime activity. The analysis results may be used for business process planning as to their further development and execution expediency in the nighttime in one or another region. Regions and agglomerations as the most suitable for servicing and sale in the nighttime may be also determined.

The KANOPUS-V1 imagery materials become available on-line in ROSCOSMOS’ Geoportal.
The NTs OMZ – Operator of Remote Sensing Space Systems is still accepting the requests for space imaging in 2013 from the Russian METEOR-M1, KANOPUS-V1, RESURS-DK1, and future RESURS-P spacecraft.
