In continuation of a series of publications on the monitoring of fire-danger situation in the regions of Russia in the summer of 2010, caused by abnormally hot and dry weather, the open section on the peat fires in Moscow region.

According to the MOE, for the week from 12 to 18 July in the Moscow region there were 109 fires that in 12,1 times more than the same period last year. The most dangerous areas, where burning peat bogs, called Egorevsky, Orekhovo-Zuevsky and Shatursky.

Since the beginning of the year in Yegorievsk area of 6 hectares burned peatlands. In Orekhovo-Zuevskaya area since the beginning of the year occurred peat fire on an area of 6.5 hectares, and in Shatura — 90 ha. Living in Moscow, especially the south-eastern areas, have become accustomed to the annual appearance of a burning smell and blue-gray haze on the city streets. This year, the citizens felt the proximity of fires in Vladimir and Moscow regions this past Monday, July 19. Subsequently, the wind changed its direction, and is now under the influence of smoke plumes are residents of the surrounding Vladimir, Ryazan and Nizhny Novgorod regions.

Currently, monitoring of fire-danger situation in the vast territory, as Moscow, allows the information obtained in the optical range complex multispectral satellite imagery (KMSS) spacecraft Meteor-M »№ 1. One-time survey can cover the territory of the ten regions of Russia (the width of the band location of 900 km with a spatial resolution of 50-100 m).

NTs OMZ continues to monitor the fire-danger situation in Russia. Materials location received from the spacecraft Meteor-M »№ 1, promptly provide special services, especially in emergency situations.
