China successfully launched the fifth navigation satellite

In China tooke place the launch of the fifth satellite navigation system «Beydou» («Compass»), which plans to create the country’s authorities. It is reported by Xinhua.

Launch rocket «Long March-3» satellite passed at 5:30 am local time at Baikonur Sichang, located in Sichuan province in south-west.

It is assumed that the navigation system «Beydou» will consist of 35 satellites. In the first phase of work, by 2012 the system should start in the Asia-Pacific region, and by 2020, spread to the entire globe. «Beydou» will become the Chinese equivalent of the American GPS and Russian GLONASS.
