ROSCOSMOS at Integrated Safety and Security Exhibition 2015

On 19 – 22 May 2015, in VDNKh exhibition center, Moscow, the International integrated Safety & Security Exhibition, one of the largest events in security and prevention of emergencies and disasters organized by the Russian Federation Ministry of Emergency Situations was held.

During the Exhibition, the workshop on Experience and Prospects of Using Space Technologies for Emergency Monitoring and Forecasting took place where the representatives of ROSCOSMOS and the Russian Rocket and Space Industry’s enterprises took part. Valery Zaichko, Head of Department – Deputy Head of Automatic Space Complexes and Systems Department, speaking at the workshop, learned about the collaboration between the ROSCOSMOS and EMERCOM of Russia in using the results of space activities for emergency monitoring and forecasting:
— Earth remote sensing;
— Use of the GLONASS technologies, COSPAS-SARSAT search and rescue space system data, and space communication and relay facilities;
— Joint participation in UN-SPIDER and International Charter on Space and Major Disasters.

One of the urgent problems of the collaboration in 2015-2016 is the establishing of joint (ROSCOSMOS and EMERCOM of Russia) remote sensing centers first of all in Murmansk, Dudinka, and Anadyr designed for operational provision of the EMERCOM of Russia’s departments in the Arctic Region with remote sensing data.

The experts from Research Institute of Precision Instruments presented the mobile complex of space data receiving and processing developed for addressing the tasks of the EMERCOM of Russia. This complex is designed to acquire remote sensing data in the field.

The experts from the Russian Space Systems outlined the new technologies of earthquake prediction based on using the ground and space monitoring data: Earth remote sensing, the GLONASS technologies, and COSPAS-SARSAT data.

The experts from the EMERCOM of Russia appreciated the high-quality interaction between the National Center for Crisis Management (NTsUKS) and the ROSCOSMOS’s Operator of remote sensing space systems in fulfilling the requests for space imagery and distributing the remote sensing data.
