On 18 November, the Express-AM5 telecommunication spacecraft developed and built by the JSC Academician M.F. Reshetnev „Information Satellite Systems“ has arrived safely at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The Express-AM5 spacecraft transportation to the cosmodrome was according to plan. This large-sized spacecraft was shipped in a dedicated climate-controlled (cleanliness, temperature and humidity) container which ensured proper conditions for highly sensitive and sophisticated payload instruments. The ISS-Reshetnev’s team in concert with the Baikonur Cosmodrome technicians will soon begin preparing the Express-AM5 spacecraft for launch which is scheduled for December 2013. Express-AM5 is the first satellite built around the ISS-Reshetnev’s heavy-class Express-2000 platform. Manufactured under the contract with the national operator Federal State Unitary Enterprise „Space Communication“ (RSCC), the spacecraft is designed to provide digital television and radio broadcasting across Russia, mobile presidential and government communications, multimedia services (telephony, videoconferencing, data transfer, and Internet access) as well as solutions based on VSAT network.
