Work has begun on preparing for the launch of a spacecraft, "GLONASS". / August 5, 2011 /

August 4 Plesetsk rocket and space professionals grow back and the Russian Space Forces will begin work on the preparation for the launch of a spacecraft «GLONASS».

On the eve of the spacecraft was delivered to Baikonur and moved in the assembly and testing building (MIC), pl.43.

At the same time to the launch preparations continue for the launch vehicle «Soyuz-2.1b», and the upper stage «Fregat».

Launching a spacecraft is scheduled for August 25.

Previous launching of a series of «Glonass» from the northern cosmodrome on 26 February 2011. Spacecraft new generation of «GLONASS-K» was successfully launched into the target orbit.

Patriotic global navigation satellite system GLONASS is designed to determine the location and velocity of the sea, air, land and other forms of transport, as well as the exact time. Accurate determination of the coordinates and speed, as well as linking to the exact time the equipment is carried out on the basis of consumers’ continuous field of navigation signal formed by the spacecraft GLONASS system.

Launch of Sputnik program GLONASS («Kosmos-1413») was held on 12 October 1982. The devices were designed for 2-3 years of operation. (They have provided, including flight ICC «Buran» and its exact fit). The system officially commissioned on October 24, 1993 order of the President of Russian Federation № 658 RPM with restricted constellation (12 satellites), subject to the deployment of regular orbital structure (24 satellites) in 1995. In accordance with Government Decree of March 7, 1995 № 237 was organized on the full deployment of the orbital structure (24 satellites), to ensure production of navigation equipment and presentation of the GLONASS system as part of an international global navigation system for civilian users.

Given the importance of tasks work on the creation, deployment and use of GLONASS is regulated by separate federal target program «Global Navigation System.» The program was approved in 2001, the period of its implementation — 2002 — 2011.

By the end of 2011 it is planned to form a full orbital group to ensure reliable reception of signals from Russian satellites anywhere in the world and to certify the GLONASS system to its full advantage.
