Agreement of GLONASS Further Development Signed. / December 8, 2014 /

On 5 December 2014, within the framework of Transport Week set up by Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the interagency agreement for GLONASS maintenance, development and use was signed. Oleg N. Ostapenko, Head of ROSCOSMMOS took part in the ceremony of signing the Agreement.

The Agreement seeks to increase the efficiency of using civilian infrastructure for the development of GLONASSS coordinate-time and navigation for the Russian Federation and international cooperation in the field of satellite navigation.

Priority areas of cooperation will include:

  • Integration of resources in departmental networks for tracking GNSS signals to improve the performance of coordinate-time and navigation services in the Russian Federation using GLONASS and to increase the safety and efficiency of different modes of transport;
  • Implementation of coordinated technological policy as to software, technological and information support of functioning ground complexes for the efficient use of GLONASS;
  • Establishing a distributed center for collection, storage, use and delivery of data on GNSS state to customers concerned;
  • Implementation of the Russian Federation policy to create conditions promoting the Russian GLONASS-based navigation technologies abroad.

The interagency Agreement will further improve certain aspects of GLONASS which will make the services of the Russian navigation system more attractive not only for the domestic market, but for the international market as well.

Transport Week is an annual business event that includes a series of nationwide and international activities dedicated to the transport industry. This is one of the largest Russian forums on issues of development and improvement of the Russian transport system. The event has been held by Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation for already seven years.
