Microsatellite "Cedar" was launched into orbit. / August 4, 2011 /

August 3, progress in space flight engineer of the International Space Station cosmonaut Sergei Volkov (Roskosmos) has successfully launched the micro-satellite «Cedar». Running dedicated to the 50th anniversary of space flight the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.

Small Spacecraft «Cedar», whose mass is 30 kilograms, was created as an experiment «RadioSkaf.» Since the orbit of «Cedar» will send 25 messages of greeting in 15 languages, pictures of the Earth and telemetry information. The satellite will also transmit data at frequencies of amateur radio.

The satellite was developed within the educational program of UNESCO RKK «Energy» and Kursk State Technical University to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the flight of the first man in space.

«Cedar» delivered to the ISS in late January, the space truck «Progress M-09M.»
