Mars rover Spirit has forgotten the collected data.. / April 22, 2009 /

Engineers NASA have found out malfunctions in remembering system of mars rover Spirit: on Friday on April, 17th, 2009 the device has not kept the data collected for a day. Besides on the subsequent days off there were some more unapproved reboots of the onboard computer. The message on malfunctions has appeared on site Space.com.

According to the program of the researches, all collected information for a day by mars rover Spirit remains for flesh-memory which is capable to store the data and in the absence of a power. However on April, 17th it has not occurred.

Now engineers of space agency carry out mars rover diagnostics. In particular, they wish to find out, whether unapproved reboots of the onboard computer are connected with loss of the data. After restart the mars rover has passed in an independent safe mode. While the device was in this mode, engineers did not manage to find out any malfunctions in the device.

It not the first similar malfunctions with a mars rover recently. Earlier it was informed that on April, 11th and 12, 2009 the device computer also rebooted without a command from the Earth. Besides on January, 25th the device also has not held in the data in remembrance collected for a day and could not define the site on Mars after a command from the Earth.

Mission Mars Exploration Rover, in which frameworks on the Red planet there have arrived mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity, has begun in 2004. Studying of mineralogical and geological structure of Martian soil, and also search of traces of water became its purpose. It was supposed that mars rovers will work 90 days, however mission proceeds till now.
