Spacecraft "Meteor-M» № 1 - two years in orbit. / September 19, 2011 /

September 17, 2009 from the cosmodrome «Baikonur» has been launched by the spacecraft of a new generation of "Meteor-M» № 1, adopted in December of that year in trial operation.

The main users are Rosgidromet, the MNR of Russia, the Russian Defense Ministry, Federal Space Agency, Russian Emergencies Ministry, Forestry Agency, Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, the executive authorities of subjects of the Russian Federation and others total space information provided by more than 460 members of local, regional and federal levels.

This spacecraft — the first spacecraft created by Federal State Unitary Enterprise «SPE VNIIEM» space complex (CC) of hydrometeorological and oceanographic support «Meteor-3M», which is designed for space remote sensing data for operational meteorology, hydrology, agricultural meteorology, climate monitoring and environmental including near-Earth space.

The target hardware "Meteor-M» № 1 includes a set of multispectral satellite imagery (KMSS), multi-channel scanner, low resolution (MSU-MR), module temperature and humidity sounding of the atmosphere (MTVZA), airborne radar system (BRLK) and other devices.

Receiving information the target hardware "Meteor-M» № 1 carried three centers at the federal level under the authority of FGBU SRC «Planeta»: European (Moscow — Dolgoprudny — Obninsk), Siberia (Novosibirsk) and Far East (Khabarovsk).

Zone of radio visibility of "Meteor-M» № 1 with three points cover the whole territory of Russia and abroad, as well as provide global coverage that allows you to create data for both Russian and foreign users.

Task information from a spacecraft has been successfully used for various types of monitoring, including agricultural land, forests (illegal logging, forest), forest fires, flood situation, snow cover, ice conditions, the birth of typhoons, volcanic activity, a review of observations of cloud cover throughout the Russia and the world.

Satellite information is one of the main types of hydrometeorological service in the Arctic and Antarctic. With these target devices "Meteor-M» № 1 on the regular basis of the operational mapping of ice conditions on the inner and outer seas of Russia. Pictures taken from a satellite, used for the analysis of ice conditions before the opening of navigation along the Northern Sea Route.

Based on data from "Meteor-M» № 1, constructed by experts and review local maps of cloud cover. Global Data MSU-MR can track the trajectory of movement of typhoons that are extremely dangerous natural phenomena. The data on typhoons used Rosgidromet, the Russian Defense Ministry, Russian Ministry of Transportation for piloting the recommended rates and timely warning to the population. Special telegrams from the coordinates of tropical cyclones are sent to all interested organizations on the Global Telecommunication System.

In order to predict spring floods and floods based on the target hardware "Meteor-M» № 1 satellite images are prepared on the degree of destruction of ice cover and river floods. During the period of trial operation the satellite FGBU SRC «Planeta» produced satellite images of rivers: Labe, Kuban, Qaisra, Ob, Tom, Katun, the Angara, Yenisey, Lena (upper), Aldan, Vilyui, Amga, Cupid, the Irtysh, the Northern Dvina. The data transferred to the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, North Caucasus AHEM, Dagestan ITF, the North AHEM, Hydrometeorological Service of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

With the help of satellite data on a regular basis the monitoring of volcanic activity. On the "Meteor-M» № 1 were monitored distribution of the dust cloud resulting from a volcanic eruption in Iceland Eyjafjallajökull. Tsvetosintezirovannye image smoke plume, combined with a map of the pressure topography of the AT-500, were transferred to Roshydromet to release storm warnings about hazardous to aviation events in the zones of airspace.

Data taken from the "Meteor-M» № 1 is also extensively used for operational monitoring of the Russian regions covered by forest and peat fires (Moscow, Ryazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Vladimir, Sverdlovsk and other regions).

In preparation for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, with the help of satellite observations carried out a comprehensive environmental monitoring of the Sochi National Park and surrounding areas. Survey data "Meteor-M» № 1 are used for weather forecasting at the Metropolitan Sochi, which are transferred to the chief meteorologist Olympics — 2014.

At present, the ROC «Meteor — ZM» currently working on a "Meteor-M» № 2, which is scheduled for launch in 2012.
