Operations and experiments on the International Space Station October 17, 2011. / October 17, 2011 /

October 17 flight engineer crew of the 29th long-term expedition of the International Space Station, Russian cosmonaut Sergei Volkov will be busy packing removed from the station equipment in the cargo ship «Progress M-10M». Sergei Volkov will also hold a daily maintenance life-support system (coolant).

Among the scientific experiments planned for the RS ISS, Russian cosmonaut Sergei Volkov, to be implemented:

Investigation of the physical conditions in space orbiting the Earth:
study the dynamics of the radiation environment on the flight path and in ISS compartments and dose accumulation in the anthropomorphic phantom, placed inside the station («Matryoshka-R»).

Biomedical research:
study the influence of space factors on the state of the systems’ bacteria — substrate "as applied to the problem of ecological safety of space technology and planetary quarantine («Biorisk»);

Space biotechnology:
determine the effect of exposure to the conditions of orbital flight on the growth, genetic and physiological characteristics of the producer strain lactol («lactol»);
study the correlation between the change in genetic characteristics, and productivity of recombinant strains in microgravity and the effects on them of heavy charged particles of cosmic radiation («Biotrack»);
study of the effects of space flight on bacteriophages («Bacteriophage»);
to study the characteristics of ginseng cell culture and other cultures in order to identify opportunities to improve their biological activity («Ginseng-2»);
study the effect of microgravity on the solubility of calcium phosphates in the water («Calcium»).

Exploration of the solar system:
study of fast and thermal neutrons («BTN-Neutron»).

Geophysics and near-Earth space:
study of atmospheric gamma bursts and optical radiation in conditions of thunderstorm activity («Lightning-Gamma»);
monitoring of seismic effects — bursts of high energy particles in near-Earth space («Splash»);
study the relaxation of chemical reactions caused by the interaction of the exhaust of jet engines of ships with the upper atmosphere by analysis of images and spectra in the UV range («relaxation»).

Remote sensing of the Earth:
study of the characteristics of the underlying surface, ocean and atmosphere («microwave radiometry»);
Experimental studies on the possibility of using the Russian segment of International Space Station for ecological survey of the area of various objects («Econ»).

Technical research and experiments:
testing of equipment and demonstration acceptance of Russian technology transfer of information on space laser line («SLS» — stand-by mode).

Education and promotion of space research:
development of methods of ground truth radiosonde space using ground-based receivers («Shadow Lighthouse»).

The ISS crew continues to work the 29th long-term expedition consisting of commander Michael Fossum (NASA), flight engineers Sergei Volkov (Roscosmos) and Satoshi Furukawa (JAXA).

Mode control the orientation of the ISS American segment is carried gyrodines station.
