Operations and experiments on the International Space Station, September 19, 2011. / September 19, 2011 /

On September 19 the Russian segment of International Space Station Flight Engineer Sergei Volkov (Roscosmos) will refuel the tanks of fuel and oxidizer propulsion unit «Dawn» from the refueling system cargo spacecraft «Progress M-10M», as well as inspection and cleaning laptops and maintenance life-support system (coolant).

The program of scientific experiments:

Biomedical research:
applied to the problem of ecological safety of space technology and planetary quarantine («Biorisk»);
study of growth and development of higher plants, as well as the development of the technology of their cultivation in microgravity («Plants-2»).

Investigation of the physical conditions in space orbiting the Earth:
study the dynamics of the radiation environment on the flight path and in ISS compartments, and dose accumulation in the anthropomorphic phantom, placed inside the station («Matryoshka-R»).

Exploration of the solar system:
study of fast and thermal neutrons. Construction of a physical model of generation of charged and neutral particles («BTN-Neutron»).

Space biotechnology:
study of the correlation between the change in genetic properties, the productivity of recombinant strains in microgravity and the effects on them of heavy charged cosmic ray particles («Biotrack»);
determine the effect of exposure to conditions of orbital flight on the growth, genetic and physiological characteristics of the producer strain lactol (’lactol ");
study of the effects of space flight on bacteriophages («bacteriophage»);
to study the characteristics of a cell culture of ginseng and other crops in order to identify opportunities to increase their biological activity («Ginseng-2»);
study the effect of micro-gravity on the solubility of calcium phosphates in the water («Calcium»).

Geophysics and near-Earth space:
study of atmospheric gamma bursts and optical radiation in terms of thunderstorm activity («Lightning-Gamma»);
Monitoring seismic effects — bursts of high energy particles in near-Earth space («Splash»);
experimental development of an Earth-space system for monitoring and forecasting of natural and technological disasters («Hurricane»).

Remote sensing:
study of the characteristics of the underlying surface, ocean and atmosphere («microwave radiometry»);
experimental testing method interaction crew of the Russian segment of International Space Station with the courts Rosrybolovstva to search for and development of industrial-productive areas of the ocean («Seiner»)

Technical research and experiments:
comprehensive study of the parameters of the ISS as a man-made environment of the various studies («ISS Wednesday»);
testing of equipment and demonstration of Russian technology round-trip information Space laser line («SLS») — Standby mode.

The ISS crew continues to work the 29th long-term expedition composed of the commander Michael Fossum (NASA), flight engineers Sergei Volkov (Roscosmos) and Satoshi Furukawa (JAXA).
