Operations and experiments on the International Space Station November 1 2011. / November 1, 2011 /

November 1 flight engineer crew of the 29th long-term expedition of the International Space Station, Russian cosmonaut Sergei Volkov will connect TV system module «Zvezda» to Laptop SSC central station, the test transmission of television pictures via Ku-band, the results of measurement in the experiment «Identification» and execute the required arrangements for maintenance of life support systems (coolant).

Among the scientific experiments planned for the RS ISS, Sergei Volkov will spend:

Investigation of the physical conditions in space orbiting the Earth:
dynamics of the radiation environment on the flight path and in ISS compartments, and accumulation of dose in the anthropomorphic phantom, placed inside the station («Matryoshka-R»).

Biomedical research:
study of growth and development of higher plants, as well as development of the technology of their cultivation in microgravity («Plants-2»);
study of typological features of operator activity in ISS stages of long-term space flight («Typology»);
control group of the crew during space flight («Interaction»);
study the influence of space factors on the state of the systems’ bacteria — substrate "as applied to the problem of ecological safety of space technology and planetary quarantine («Biorisk»).

Space biotechnology:
determine the effect of exposure to the conditions of orbital flight on the growth, genetic and physiological characteristics of the producer strain lactol («lactol»);
study the correlation between the change in genetic characteristics, and productivity of recombinant strains in microgravity and the effects on them of heavy charged particles of cosmic radiation («Biotrack»);
study of the effects of space flight on bacteriophages («Bacteriophage»);
to study the characteristics of ginseng cell culture and other cultures in order to identify opportunities to improve their biological activity («Ginseng-2»).

Exploration of the solar system:
study of fast and thermal neutrons («BTN-Neutron»).

Geophysics and near-Earth space:
monitoring of seismic effects — bursts of high energy particles in near-Earth space («Splash»);
study of atmospheric gamma bursts and optical radiation in conditions of thunderstorm activity («Lightning-Gamma»);

Remote sensing of the Earth:
study of the characteristics of the underlying surface, ocean and atmosphere («microwave radiometry»);
Experimental studies on the possibility of using the Russian segment of International Space Station for ecological survey of the area of various objects («Econ»).

Technical research and experiments:
study of high-precision motion estimation ISS («Vector-T»);
testing of equipment and demonstration acceptance of Russian technology transfer of information on space laser line («SLS» — stand-by mode).

The ISS crew continues to work the 29th long-term expedition consisting of commander Michael Fossum (NASA), flight engineers Sergei Volkov (Roscosmos) and Satoshi Furukawa (JAXA).
