Indian lunar probe photographed the landing site of Apollo 15

Indian lunar probe «Chandrayaan-1» photographed the landing site «Apollo 15». Pictures are shown and described in an article written by staff of the Indian space agency (ISRO). Brief Photos of an Indian newspaper The Times of India.

The camera, mounted on board «Chandrayaan-1», captured not only the area of landing American spacecraft, but also traces left on the surface of the satellite wheel lunar rover. Images must not allow themselves to see the footprints of astronauts.

India launched its first unmanned lunar probe on Oct. 22, 2008. The objectives of «Chandrayaan-1» consisted of photographing the lunar surface and compilation of mineralogical and geographical maps of Earth’s satellite. After 312 days of stay of the probe in lunar orbit communication with him was lost. The representatives of ISRO announced the completion of the work «Chandrayaan-1», noting that the probe performed most of the mission. Later information was received that the probe will remain orbiting the moon a thousand days, and then broken on the surface of the satellite.
