Indian newspapers have explained the reasons of the lunar probe failure

Several Indian media have published material, which explains the reason for failure of the first lunar probe «Chandrayaan-1», launched by India on Oct. 22, 2008. In editions of The Times of India and on the portal India.com failure of the probe due to overheating, which occurred due to an incorrect calculation of the specialists temperature on the lunar orbit.

The Times of India refers to the words of the chief satellite control center in the Indian space agency (ISRO) Ty Alex Kay (TK Alex), who said on erroneous calculations of the temperature at an altitude of 100 kilometers above the lunar surface.

When calculating the orbit of the probe and means of protection specialists ISRO laying temperature around 75 degrees Celsius. In fact, at an altitude of 100 kilometers was noticeably warmer, and engineers had to raise the orbit of another 100 kilometers. In official communications agency modified the orbit due to the need to obtain a more general plans for the moon and continue to study the gravitational field of Earth’s satellite.

Alex does not explicitly states that it was overheating was the cause of failure of the probe. Nevertheless, the journalists have done just such a conclusion from his words. On the official website of the agency any reports explaining what happened to the probe, did not appear.

In late April 2009 due to excessive heating of the system out one of the instruments «Chandrayaan-1», is responsible for navigation. Later, representatives of ISRO said that the problem is resolved. Reports that the agency lost contact with the lunar probe, appeared in the press on 29 August. The next day, ISRO announced the official (albeit premature) completion of the probe. Representatives of the space agency stressed that the unit carried out its scientific mission at 95 per cent. A few days reports have appeared that, despite the loss of the ability to transmit radio signals, «Chandrayaan-1» will remain in lunar orbit is 1000 days and broken on the surface of the satellite in 2013.
