NASA will listen Mars probe "Phoenix".

Monday, January 18, NASA will begin the search for Mars probe «Phoenix», sitting at the north pole of the planet in late May 2008. Once on the Martian winter came, the probe is no longer enough batteries, solar energy and connection with the «Phoenix» has been lost. Details of future search operations described in the press release NASA.

The last session with the probe held on Nov. 2, 2008. Then, early in the Martian autumn, the sun is above the horizon for 17 hours. Now on the Red Planet comes spring, and the North Pole receives approximately the same amount of solar radiation, as in the last days of «life» of the probe. Gradually the place of landing the Phoenix "will be covered during the growing time, and the engineers do not exclude that the energy probe may be enough to send radio signals. The device was designed so that a sufficient amount of energy it will periodically try to contact him with all available radio transmitters.

One of these transmitters is the orbital probe Mars Odyssey. He will take over the landing site «Phoenix» ten times a day and look for signals sent by the probe in the respective frequency bands. In January, scientists intend to hold a three-day session search probe. In February and March, the length of sessions is planned to increase.

Scientists with responsibility probe mission, believe that the chances to detect sent «Phoenix» signals are low. The probe was not designed to survive in the Martian winter. Nevertheless, experts are going to conduct all communication sessions. Only if the Mars Odyssey will not be able to catch radio signals from the «Phoenix» in any of the attempts, the scientists can be sure that Martian probe finally goes down.
