The buyer, who won at auction in New York on the capsule of the Soviet spacecraft Vostok CAD-2, will return it to Russia. It is reported by Agence France-Presse.

As has found out the agency, the winner of the auction was an entrepreneur Evgeny Yurchenko — former CEO of Svyazinvest and the chairman of the investment fund named after AS Popov. According to Yurchenko, a capsule ship must take its rightful place in a museum dedicated to the development of the national space program.

Capsule Vostok CAD-2, which was launched last test before the space flight of Yuri Gagarin, was sold at auction auction house Sotheby’s in New York on April 12. Lot price was 2.882 million of $ 500.

March 25, 1961 in the capsule have been sent into orbit Dog Star and the mannequin man in a metal chair. 18 days after their successful landing took place on the flight of Yuri Gagarin, who was sent into outer space in exactly the same capsule. Currently it is set in the Russian memorial museum space.

Bidding in New York were timed to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of Gagarin’s flight.
