NASA had no plans of extending the life-time of the ISS till 2020. / July 15, 2009 /

The U.S. space agency plans to complete the International Space Station, as previously, in 2016. That was reported by the newspaper The Washington Post, referring to the words in the ISS program manager Michael Suffredini NASA (Michael Suffredini).

According to the newspaper, is now in the American Space Agency has no long-term plans for financing the station — the budget is only up to 2015. However, unofficially NASA is considering extending the value of the ISS by 2020.

Supporters of the extension of the station say it has cost the partner countries according to some 600 billion dollars. At the same time to complete the construction of the station is planned in 2010. The latter means that the «unique scientific complex» in full capacity elaborate only six years old. Opponents, in turn, argue that the maintenance of the station is «pointless waste of money». According to some, the ISS has been built then, «that the shuttle was to fly far».

Most recently, Roscosmos head Anatoly Perminov said that the station will likely be extended until 2025. This, he said, indicated «attitude of European and American partners». Besides the information that, if the international station will not be extended, the Federal Space Agency otstykuet the Russian segment of ISS and based on it will create its own station.

As part of ongoing work on the ISS in the near future should leave Skyttel «Endeavor», which will deliver to the station details for the Japanese module «Kibo». The launch is, however, already postponed five times.
