Satellite GOES-14 passed the first snapshot of the Sun

GOES-14 satellite, one of the American GOES (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) system passed the first snapshot of the Sun.

GOES-14 has received the image shining through its instrument of Solar X-Ray Imager (SXI), which is a telescope «sees» in the soft X-ray range. The device will take pictures of the solar atmosphere every minute. Collected GOES-14 information specialists predicted sunny weather. Excessive activity of the Sun would be in danger of orbiting space vehicles.

GOES-14 satellite, which is to reach orbit called GOES-O, was launched into space June 27, 2009. Beyond Earth withdrew its launch vehicle Delta IV. The satellite, along with other system devices GOES monitors space weather. Installed on board the GOES-14 sensors to collect information on the intensity of the solar wind and the power of X-ray emission of light.
