Another satellite start working in GLONASS system .. / January 27, 2010 /

Three satellites GLONASS-M were sent into space on Dec. 14 aboard the carrier rocket Proton-M ". Together with the total number of vehicles GLONASS orbit is 22. By purposeful uses 18 satellites. Two apparatus are derived from the system, one was finally decided to exclude from the orbital grouping and another has not yet put into operation. This site system «GLONASS» stated that as of Jan. 26 in-orbit satellite operated only 17.

In September, the group «GLONASS» should have been extended with three more vehicles. Shortly before the start it was decided to dismantle the satellites, as the experts feared that the machines are defective. A similar three dismantled appliance satellite GLONASS-M "was launched on 25 September 2008, but still have not earned.

Satellite navigation system GLONASS should be an analogue of the American GPS and the European Galileo. In order to signal the GLONASS covered the whole territory of Russia, the number of orbital groups must be brought up to 18 vehicles. Navigation around the world will become possible if the number of satellites is 24.
