NASA satellite photographed the "river of dust" over Australia.

NASA published satellite images of dust storms that hit in Australia (Sydney, in particular), September 24, 2009. Pictures and descriptions are available on the agency’s website. By its appearance resembles a giant storm "river of dust, stretching thousands of kilometers.

The photos were made with the device MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer — Medium Resolution Spectroradiometer) instrument on the unit Aqua, designed for observing the Earth’s atmosphere.

In total, the satellite images made the northern and southern part of the dust storm. Photos in high resolution sizes 2,5 and 3 megabytes, respectively, are available here and here. The length of this atmospheric phenomenon — 3450 kilometers.

This dust storm reached Sydney 24 September 2009 and resulted in violations of air links with the city. Furthermore ukryvshy Sydney reddish haze caused discomfort among the population — more than 250 people contacted the ambulance with complaints of shortness of breath
