Seoul approved the launch of the first South Korean space launch

South Korean Government has approved plans to launch the first space rocket, reported AFP. Launch KSLV-1 (Korea Space Launch Vehicle-1 — Korean booster-1) should start on 30 July with the launch Naro Space Center, located in the county Kohyn (about 475 kilometers away from Seoul). Launch should be put into orbit the telecommunications satellite.

KSLV-1, later named «Naro», was created jointly with Russian experts. One of its two stages has been designed and manufactured at the Scientific-Production Center of Khrunichev. In addition, Russia has assisted in the creation of launching pad. According to the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, rocket almost ready to run, you only have to join together the two stages.

Running «Naro» has already twice postponed. The original start was appointed at the end of 2008. Because of the earthquake in Sichuan province launch was postponed at the end of June 2009. An additional month (from June to July) will require engineers to test engines.

«Naro» weighs 140 tons and its height is 33 meters. The first stage of the launch vehicle is equipped with a liquid rocket engine thrust of 170 tons, and the second — solid engine thrust 7 tons, the ARMS-TASS. At the launch vehicle Korea has spent a total of 500 billion won (about 489 million dollars). Development of KSLV-1 since 2002.

In early April, on the successful launch of launch vehicle with the satellite announced North Korea. The news sparked a mixed reaction from other countries.
