High-Energy Cosmic Rays from Solar Flares

The PAMELA magnetic spectrometer and ARINA scintillation spectrometer on board Resurs-DK1 satellite are still conducting precision measurements of charged component of galactic and solar cosmic rays.
Last month (from 10 November to 10 December), no intensive explosive processes (flares) occurred in the Sun despite a great number of sunspots.
During this period, the PAMELA and ARINA experiments yielded the temporal intensity profiles of galactic and solar protons with energies of 45-100MeV and 100MeV – tens GeV respectively. Fig.1 shows the temporal profiles in the energy ranges 45÷55MeV, 100÷145MeV and 400÷540MeV. The instances of solar flares occurred on November 10 and 19, are marked with arrows with the event class indicated next to them (Х1.1 and Х1.0).
Average values of flows during a quite period of solar activity are shown by thin horizontal lines in the figure. During flares, high-energy solar protons with energies more than 150MeV were registered by the spectrometers in the near-Earth space. No other cosmic ray components were detected.
