Soyuz TMA-15M Docks Successfully with ISS

On 24 November at 05:48 Moscow Time, the Soyuz TMA-15M manned transport cargo ship docked successfully with the International Space Station.

Soyuz TMA-15M moored at the Rassvet Mini Research Module of the Russian ISS Segment. The rendezvous was automated and controlled by experts of the Mission Control Center and the spacecraft crewmembers — Commander Anton Shkaplerov (ROSCOSMOS), Flight Engineers Samantha Cristoforettii (ESA), and Terry Virts (NASA). The docking was controlled by the ROSCOSMOS’s cosmonauts Alexander Samokutyaev and Elena Serova from the ISS board.

Upon opening the hatches between the spacecraft and Station at 07:30 Moscow Time, the Expedition 42/43 crew consisting of Alexander Samokutyaev, Elena Serova, Anton Shkaplerov ,ROSCOSMOS, , Barry Wilmore and Terry Virts, NASA, and Samantha Cristoforettii, ESA will begin its mission.

In accordance with the ISS Mission, during the Expedition 42/43, the following tasks are to be fulfilled: operations with the Progress M-24M, Progress M-25M, Progress M-26M, Progress M-27M, and Europe’s ATV-5 «Georges Lemaitre» cargo vehicle and Japanese HTV-5 Kounotori transfer vehicle, preparation of return of three ISS-41/42 crewmembers to the Earth on board Soyuz TMA-14M, and participation in docking of Soyuz TMA-16M with ISS to Rassvet Mini Research Module.

Besides, the work plan includes a wide program of scientific and applied research and experiments in different areas like space bioengineering, medical-biological research, Earth remote sensing, and etc. During the expedition, the ROSCOSMOS’s cosmonauts are to pursue a total of 59 experiments. The program also includes the maintaining the station functionality and retrofitting the ISS with equipment delivered by cargo vehicles.

The ISS Expedition will last for 169 days.
