From Plesetsk launch of "Soyuz-2.1b" satellite "GLONASS-M"

Launch vehicle «Soyuz-2.1b» satellite «GLONASS-M» was launched on board on Monday night from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region, RIA Novosti reported.

Told reporters the Russian Defense Ministry spokesman on space forces, Colonel Alexei Zolotukhin, the launch was made at 0:15, Moscow time, with the launcher platform number 4 and number 43 was in normal mode.

The launch was scheduled for October 2, Zolotukhin recalled, but was postponed due to adverse weather conditions in the rocket — the force of wind at a height of 7 to 10 kilometers exceed allowable parameters. Even before starting the transfer of the accident with cargo ship «Progress» in August 2011, as the Federal Space Agency banned launches of carrier rockets «Soyuz».

The representative of the Ministry of Defence said that the orbit of satellites are displayed in two versions, «GLONASS», «GLONASS-M», a term of active existence of which is seven years old and the new generation satellite «GLONASS-K», which is designed for 10-12 years of active life. Previous launch of a spacecraft in this series from the Plesetsk cosmodrome on 26 February 2011.

According to the CEO and chief designer of the design bureau of JSC «ISS Reshetnev name» Nicholas Testoedova until the end of 2011 it is planned to send into orbit four satellites «GLONASS-M».
