ART-XC Telescope on board Spectr-RG Spacecraft . / December 28, 2016 /

Today, on 27 December 2016, the flight unit of the ART-XC Roentgen Telescope to be used in the Spectr-RG space observatory was presented at the NPO Lavochkin. ART-XC is under acceptance test now at the enterprise.

Ilya Lomakin, NPO Lavochkin Complex Deputy Head says: „The start of the equipment testing is scheduled for Spring of the following year and will last for nine-eleven months.“

Spectr-RG will be equipped with two Roentgen telescopes – ART-XC and eROSITA (Extended Roentgen Survey with Imaging Telescope Array) developed by IKI of RAS (Russia) and Max-Planck Institute (Germany) respectively. The eROSITA telescope is scheduled to be delivered in January 2017.

The spacecraft will be in a Lissajous (or halo) orbit about the Lagrangian point L2 of the Sun-Earth system and for the first four years will observe the entire stellar sky and for the next three and a half years – the Universe’s objects of utmost interest for the world scientific community.
