Due to heavy rainfall caused flash floods and landslides in Sri Lanka in December 2014, the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters was activated on request by the injured party (Activation 513).

The ROSCOSMOS through the Operator of Space Remote Sensing Facilities (Research Center for Earth operative monitoring of JSC „Russian Space Systems“) performed an operational imagery using the Russian Resurs-P No1 and Kanopus-V No1 remote sensing spacecraft.

During the Charter activation since 30 December 2014 till 8 January 2015, the space imagery data of the disaster-affected territory of more than 63 thousand sq. km in area was delivered to Sri Lanka by Russia.

Space imagery data from the Russian remote sensing spacecraft delivered to Sri Lanka by request to monitor floods within the framework of the ROSCOSMOS participation in the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters.
