Yamal 402 Spacecraft Now at Baikonur. / November 12, 2012 /

The Yamal 402 communication satellite has been delivered by the AN-124-100 RUSLAN aircraft to the Baikonur Cosmodrome (Yuzhny Airdrome) earlier this morning.

Upon being unloaded the satellite will be placed on transportation platform and carried to Site 92A to be prepared for launch scheduled for December this year.

The Yamal-402 telecommunication satellite will replenish the home communication satellite constellation and provide fixed communication and transmission services over Russia, Western and Central Europe, the Middle East, and Northern Africa.

The spacecraft is equipped with twelve standard Ku-band 72MHz and sixteen 54MHz transponders as well as with eighteen „planned“ Ku-band 36MHz transponders. So, the total Yamal-402 satellite capacity will be 46 physical transponders or 66 equivalent 36MHz transponders.

The spacecraft antennas form four fixed beams: the Russian, Northern, European, and Southern, beams as well as one redirected beam.

The „planned“ bands (eighteen 36MHz transponders) will be used in the Russian beam which contours exactly the Russian borders. Four 54MHz transponders with standard bandwidths will be operated in the Russian beam in addition.

In the wider Northern beam covering the visible territory of the Russia, GIS-countries, nearly the whole Europe and a part of the Middle East, from nine to twelve 72MHz transponders will be operated.

Four 54MHz transponders will be used in the European beam that covers the territory of the Western and Central Europe, the Middle East, and Northern Africa.

The wide Southern beam covering the African territory to the south of Sahara will operate eight 54MHz transponders.

The beam formed by the antenna capable of redirecting on ground command during the spacecraft operation in orbit, may use up to three 72MHz transponders.

The Yamal-402 telecommunication spacecraft has been produced under the Gazprom Space Systems order.

On 3 November from the Baikonur Cosmodrome the Yamal-330K spacecraft has been successfully launched. The satellite is designed for operating as a space repeater on a constant and 24-hour basis in the satellite fixed communication and television broadcasting systems with the given characteristics.
