Powerful earthquake on Kuriles.. / January 16, 2009 /

Seismic activity strengthening in the Smoked-Kamchatka zone was predicted by experts of NTS ОМЗ. It became obvious after geomagnetic indignations 31.12.2008 and 3.01.2009 and series of earthquakes in a strip of seismomagnetic meridians 145/-35 and 147/-33 degrees. The given meridians «covered» the Smoked-Kamchatka zone and could cause in it strong earthquakes (the Appendix 1). In the beginning force of underground elements in 2-4 points was felt on January, 14th by inhabitants of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskij. When on January, 14-15th over Kamchatka cloudy seismoindicators have been found out, it became clear that threat of strong earthquake remains. And one day there was a series of earthquakes around the Mariana Islands confirming activization of process along specified seismomeridians (the Appendix 3) earlier.

About powerful earthquake on Kuriles signalled a number of the signs, some of them are resulted in the Appendix 2. Earthquake start has been carried out by the powerful electromagnetic indignation registered on January, 14th at Japanese station Kakioka (the Appendix 2, the block 2.2). About same tells splash in a geomagnetic Dst-index on January, 14th (the Appendix 2, бл. 2.1). Also have synchronously responded теллурические currents to the item of Pirgos, Athena in Greece and protons on Kamchatka (V.S.Bobrovsky’s Message).

We will remind, 15.11.2006 and 13.01.2007 around islands Simushir (Kuriles) there were powerful earthquakes to magnitude more than 8. Then has done without victims and destructions. But the tsunami in height of 2 m (the Appendix 4) were observed.

Seismic conditions in the Smoked-Kamchatka zone still remain strained. Till February, 1st 2009 experts of the Center do not exclude possibility of strong earthquake on Kamchatka with magnitude more than 6.2. The period is Most dangerous from January, 21 till January, 24th.
