WGISS-38 Meeting

The 38th Meeting of the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites Working Group on Information Systems and Services (CEOS WGISS) will be held in Moscow, Russia, September 29 to October 3 2014. The Meeting will be hosted by JSC „Russian Space Systems“ and ROSCOSMOS.

More than 30 representatives from 15 countries (USA, Canada, Italy, France, the UK, Japan, China, and others) will take part in the Meeting. From the Russian Party, the Meeting will be attended by the representatives of ROSCOSMOS, JSC „Russian Space Systems“, JSC „Research Institute of Precision Instruments“, and other organizations of the industry.

The WGISS meetings have been held on a regular basis since 1984. The meetings are attended by representatives of Space Agencies like NASA, NOAA, ESA, CNES, JAXA, and etc and organizations like GSDI, AKKA, GeoSeren, and etc which are the members of the WG. Since 2013, ROSCOSMOS, JSC „Russian Space Systems“, and JSC „Research Institute of Precision Instruments“ are the WGISS members.

The WGISS activity is aimed at providing end users with maximum access to satellite data from different space systems. With this in mind, the WGISS members are engaged in elaborating the recommendations on unification and upgrading of existing and future geoinformation systems and services based on the international standards and CEOS recommendations.

International Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (http://www.ceos.org) was established in 1984 to ensure the international coordination of satellite systems designed to observe and study the Earth. It currently comprises 5 subgroups:

Working Group on Calibration and Validation (WGCV);
Working Group on Information Systems and Sevices (WGISS);
Working Group on Capacity Building and Data Democracy (WGCapD);
Working Group on Climate (WGClimate);
Working Group on Disasters (WGDisasters)

Since 2010, ROSCOSMOS is a member of WGCV and takes an active part in its annual meetings and since 2013 is a member of WGISS.
