Training fire extinguished on the ISS

On Thursday, August 6, at the International Space Station has been training, which was simulated fire in the Russian module «Zvezda».

Training in extinguishing the fire was attended by all six members of the crew: Russian Gennady Padalka and Roman Romanenko, Americans Michael Barratt and Timothy copra, and Belgian Frank De Winne, Robert, and Canadian Tire. As the agency interlocutor, smoke detectors installed in the module «Zvezda», worked at 17:45 Moscow time.

Then the crew began to search the place of a training fire. On the detection and elimination of a fire station cosmonauts and astronauts took about an hour. At 19:40 the crew should have been in touch with the Mission Control Center and to provide an account of the training.

Business unit «Zvezda» is equipped with a means of detecting fire «signal-BM», consisting of ten sensors haze. When it detects smoke activated siren, the onboard computer lights up a special board, and on the screens of all other computers output circuit station, at which the center of a possible fire.

In case of fire the corresponding signal is transmitted to all the Russian modules, and the American segment of the ISS. In order to prevent the spread of fire, switched off the system receiving oxygen «Electron» and ventilation. Each module of the Russian segment of the station are fire extinguishers.
