Fuel leak on the shuttle "Discovery" is resolved

NASA engineers have replaced the plugs in the tail compartment of the shuttle Discovery, which leak discovered two weeks before the scheduled launch, reports Associated Press.

Problem was detected on October 18. Techniques have noticed that guard one of the plugs get wet on leaked monomethyl hydrazine — a component of the fuel. This substance is very toxic, which complicated the work to eliminate leakage. First, engineers tightened the bolts around the seal in the cap, but then it was decided to replace them. The engine, which found leaking, is responsible for the correction of the shuttle in orbit.

Due to the fact that the fault was corrected within a reasonable time, scheduled for Nov. 1 launch of the shuttle will not be postponed. «Discovery» to deliver to ISS the various equipment and robotic android. The flight will be the last in the history of the Discovery.
