ESA has appointed date of start of two space observatories

The European space agency has appointed start date at once two space observatories Herschel and Planck. Start is appointed to May, 14th, 2009. On it it is informed in the press release on site ESA.

It is planned that to observatory space will go on rocket Ariane-5 which will be started from the cosmodrome the Hen in the French Guiana. Now engineers of the European space agency spend checkup and refuelling of devices.

Telescopes Herschel and Planck will work on distance about 15 million kilometres from the Earth — they will rotate around лагранжевой points L2. This point settles down in a terrestrial orbit in such a manner that the Earth, the Sun and L2 lie in tops of an equipotential triangle. Devices will move on so-called orbits of Lissazhu, for deduction on which they will use own systems of engines.

Studying of early stages of development of the Universe will be the purpose of new observatories. So, for example, device Planck within 15 months will be engaged in studying of relic radiation — the microwave radiation which have remained after a Big Bang. In particular, scientists the data about non-uniformity of distribution of the given radiation will interest.

Besides supervision of remote objects observatory Herschel will be engaged in studying of our Solar system. In particular, sensitive gauges of the device will allow to study atmospheres and a chemical compound of various heavenly bodies: planets and companions.
