Emergencies and Catastrophes. / April 29, 2009 /

An integrated and efficient monitoring of the Earth to response and prevent emergencies and catastrophes is feasible exclusively by remote sensing facilities. This uses the data from natural-resources spacecraft that enable federal, regional, and local observations of no worse than one day in observational frequency. To fulfill the demands for these tasks requires that proper operational data acquisition should be provided to achieve the following tasks:

  • Earthquake prediction and effect assessment, preparing the basis for making decision on their elimination;

  • Monitoring of floods and damage assessment;

  • Monitoring of forest fires and damage assessment;

  • Monitoring of water resources condition.
