The astronauts installed a new pump on the ISS.. / August 17, 2010 /

Astronauts Douglas Wheelock and Tracy Caldwell Dyson in the third emergency spacewalks install a new ammonia pump in the ISS thermoregulation system .

In the course of work behind the pump station has been screwed by four bolts to the outside of the platform on section S1. Also, astronauts have brought to the pump module, five cable power supply system. On-board engineer Shannon Walker helped colleagues inside the International Space Station. After installing the pump module ground control service was told that all its systems are working smoothly.

In the previous spacewalks, which was held on August 11, Wheelock and Caldwell Dyson disconnect the failed pump on external platforms and temporarily attached it to the next airlock «Quest». The astronauts spent outside the station 7 hours 26 minutes. The first repair space walk, which took place on August 7, lasted 8 hours 3 minutes.

Pump out of order on the night of 31 July to 1 August 2010. The next day after breaking the inhabitants of the station tried to run the pump, but these attempts have not led to success. Then NASA decided to conduct several unplanned spacewalks.
