Progress M-09M Arrives at the ISS. / January 31, 2011 /
Russian cargo spacecraft, Progress M-09M, docked on Sunday with the International Space Station (ISS). The vehicles approach to the station was automatic, under control of Russian Mission Control and the crew. The contact occured at 5:39 MSK. A Soyuz-U booster rocket carrying the spacecraft blasted off from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan on Friday. The space freighter delivered fuel, oxygen, food, books and birthday presents for Expedition 26 captain Scott J. Kelly of the United States, who turns 47 on February 21. The spacecraft also delivered to the space station a Kedr mini-satellite designed to transmit greeting messages in 15 languages, Earth photos and telemetry data from its service systems. The satellites name is derived from Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarins call sign.
