Progress MS In-Flight Testing Completed. / August 7, 2017 /

The in-flight testing of the Progress MS modernized cargo vehicle has been successfully completed. The new series spacecraft testing was conducted during the flight of Progress MS and Progress MS-02 as well as Progress MS-03 as the passed testing. The in-flight test program has been fully completed. Following the test program, in early August 2017, the appropriate order was signed.

On July1 2016, as part of the in-flight tests the improved TORU Teleoperated Mode of Spacecraft Control System was successfully tested on board Progress MS. The vehicle was removed from the Pirs docking compartment (SO-1) of the ISS at the distance of about 200 meters for purpose of comprehensive checking the TORU operation. The ROSCOSMOS cosmonauts A. Ovchinin and O. Skripochka being on board the ISS took over the control of the cargo ship. The Progress MS return to the ISS concluded the testing.

Four scheduled corrections of the ISS orbit were made with the Progress MS-02 cargo vehicle which had been the part of the International Space Station during the period April 2 – October 14 2016. The Progress MS-03 in-flight tests were completed successfully on January 31 2017.

Progress MS was developed by S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia as the result of deep modernization of Progress M. The spacecraft is equipped with the satellite navigation system, new command and telemetry system capable of operating within the control loop through the Luch data relay, the Kurs-NA onboard rendezvous system, and digital units of cargo ship tethering and orientation.
