About earthquakes in Western Turkey. / May 23, 2011 /

A powerful earthquake struck May 19 in western Turkey. There are victims who have suffered, destruction. The most affected towns in the county Sima province of Kutahya.

Analysis of geophysical features (Annex 1) showed them to abnormal activation of May 9-10 and May 15-18. Satellite imagery on May 17-18 were identified cloud seismotectonic indicators (Annex 2) along the revitalized area north Anatolian fault. This line of cloud indicator (B) with a length of 315 km gave the potential magnitude of M (B) = ln315 ~ 5,8, which coincided with the real magnitude.

Starting the earthquake occurred on 21 diurnal harmonic of geomagnetic disturbance on May 1 along Seismomagnetic meridian (-138/42) degrees. Potential dates were 15 or 22 May ± 2 days. The actual event occurred on May 19.

Long-term prognosis in Turkey is expected to a major earthquake. Therefore, the obtained signs of becoming a useful significance.
