Implementation of seismological forecast on Taiwan.. / November 11, 2009 /

Declared 3rd of November a strong earthquake forecast in Taiwan was realised. Seismic event occurred on November 5, 2009 with a magnitude of M5, 8 (Taiwan seismologists estimated magnitude of the M6, 0). Power aftershocks reached 7 points. No injuries or damage.

Proactive report-presentation of the forecast was made on Nov. 4, 2009 in Tainan University Dr. I. Shugan (Lomonosov Moscow State University), sent to interested parties. Operational forecast for all the parameters were as follows: Date of November 4-6, force — 6-7 points, the zone — about. Taiwan. Was presented method of calculating forecast. The site NTs OMZ 3/11/2009 presents the main features of the preparation EQ: telluric, gravity, cloud and geomagnetic.

Of particular interest were the clouds seismotectonic indicator in satellite pictures 31.10.2009, which gave the potential magnitude of the M5, 9 (the actual magnitude was variously estimated 5,8-6). The message on the website 03.11.2009 EQ cloud presented in Annex 2.

This is the second consecutive unfulfilled prediction, developed under a joint Russian-Taiwan seismomonitoring and forecasting experiment.
